About
Deserae (Dez)
Dance/teaching Background:
I have been a performing bellydancer for nearly 25 years, since August 2001. I began my training with the Desert Moon Dance Academy of St. Louis. There I learned traditional Egyptian and Lebanese Cabaret style bellydance. From there I went on to be a co-director or troupe member of several dance companies across 3 states, including: Flowers of Araby (co-director), The Vagabond Girls (co-director), Read My Hips, and The League of Extraordinary Bellydancers (LXBD).

I also attended several seminars a year taught by highly acclaimed dancers and instructors such as Hadia, Faten Salama, Bozenka, Nourhan Sharif and Shareen el Safy.

I have performed regularly at restaurants, parties, seminars, and festivals.

I strive to make dancing fun for myself and those around me. I love teaching choreographies and try to break them down well enough for everyone to understand. I enjoy teaching one on one in class so that no one is left behind. Dancing has improved my self esteem and co-ordination and allows me to express myself in fun and creative ways.

Currently I'd call my style modern cabaret bellydance. I've not only performed traditional bellydance, but also fusion styles dressed as several star wars characters, edward scissorhands, a beholder, a bearded wizard, and the terminator, just to name a few. I love being able to combine my love of cosplay with my love of bellydance to create something new. I specialize in improvisation, sword, and cane.
